ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Charles Sampson, Ph.D., emeritus professor at the University of Missouri and author of the new book “Sparrows of Senegambia: A Memoir,” imparts lessons learned from his parents, inspired words of exhortation, reflections on race and ancestry, and reflections and insight from his travels in Senegambia. Dr. Sampson defined the title’s meaning as follows, “My life and work experiences lead me to compare my American family to sparrows, birds that symbolize power, hard work, perseverance, productivity, and persistence. The flight of the sparrow allows it to rise above the realities of dread and dismay.”
